Faith and Freedom (Written in Blood)

This past weekend, I took the opportunity to support a friend and was able to spend a few days in the capital of America, Washington DC. Not knowing what to expect other than my friend being there, I found myself submerged in the biggest Faith and Freedom Coalition of all time. The Faith and Freedom Coalition is a conservative organization that helps mobilize, educate, and train conservative, faith-based voters.
Anyone you could imagine was there from President Donald J. Trump to one of my favorite speakers of the event, Tulsi Gabbard. Everyone was on edge anticipating the appearance of the President, but for me personally, it was Tulsi who stole the show. Tulsi didn't seem to be there for the cheers but rather to win back the hearts of American Patriots, calling us all to remember the courage and bravery of the original signers of the Declaration of Independence.
One of the brave men who endured harsh consequences for his signature on the Declaration of Independence was John Hart. John was forced to flee into the woods running for his life, only to return and find his wife dead and children missing. This was the cost of the freedom we are now celebrating 250 years later.
Another one of the many brave men who put their lives on the line to sign the Declaration of Independence was Abraham Clark. Mr. Clark's sons were captured by the British and once their identity was confirmed, they were torutred because of their father's signature. Not being able to endure the torture, one of Clark's children died due to his father's unwavering stance in support of the Declaration of Independence.
I was amazed at the bravery and convictions of these men and couldn't help but to draw a correlation between them and the men and women of faith mentioned in Hebrews 11. Contrary to popular belief, faith is not abstract. Although it hasn't the ability to converse, faith speaks volumes. It may not have legs, but its stance is recognized by the entire world. It does not have the ability to touch, yet it leaves onlookers with a sense of embrace. Although this was a political event, I wasn't left with thoughts of pushing a particular candidate. I, personally, was left with a conviction to examine myself to see whether I truly had faith.
Much like America's founding fathers, the true followers of Christ are also called to consider the cost. What does it mean to truly be a Christian? Much similar to what it meant and means to be a patriot. It means taking a stance and not wavering even in the midst of hell or high waters. It means living for something greater than yourself and preferring death otherwise. The call of Jesus for anyone who wishes to follow Him is a similar call to what the founders of America experienced.
24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone desires to be My disciple, let him deny himself [disregard, lose sight of, and forget himself and his own interests] and take up his cross and follow Me [[c]cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying, also]. 25 For whoever is bent on saving his [temporal] life [his comfort and security here] shall lose it [eternal life]; and whoever loses his life [his comfort and security here] for My sake shall find it [life everlasting]. Matthew 16:24-25 AMPC
The truth is, if we have accepted a faith that doesn't come with thorns, we have not accepted the faith of the crucified Savior. America was not built on pretentious faith and neither was Christianity. Blood, sweat and tears established the Church of the almighty God. If we have a faith that hasn't come with tears, that hasn't come with taking an unwavering stance, then perhaps the founding fathers would say we are the actual illegal immigrants that they want out of their country.
Christianity was built on courage, faith and the sacrificial death of Jesus. If we do not have the same sentiment taking real estate in our hearts, not only would the founders of America not want us in their country, but God Himself will not be welcoming us into His either.
We have all heard the famous phrase, "Give me liberty, or give me death." But according to the Lord and Savior, Jesus, true freedom begins with death -- death to our personal pursuits, death to our will and relying on the will of God to prevail. This is how the Church was formed and how this great country was built. We must return to the faith of our forefathers and the faith and example of the true father who is Abraham. Those who do not exemplify this type of tangible faith are illegal aliens in Kingdom of God and are not worthy to be considered citizens of this great country either.
